About CASA

Our Purpose

Colorado CASA is the statewide coordinating agency for CASA in Colorado. Nationwide, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, created in 1977, has over 900 member agencies that train volunteers to speak up for abused, neglected or abandoned children in the court.

CASA volunteers are appointed to gather information in child abuse and neglect cases and speak to the court on behalf of the needs of the children. Currently, there are 17 CASA programs in Colorado, covering 19 of the 22 Judicial Districts.

Colorado CASA and the 17 local CASA programs in Colorado work cooperatively with the Department of Human Services, the County courts, and other child serving agencies to improve the lives of abused and neglected children in Colorado.

The Foundation

CASA is based on the belief that every child has the right to a safe, permanent home. By thoroughly exploring each child's background, dedicated and intensively trained CASA volunteers are able to assess each child's situation and make objective recommendations to the court. The child may be placed with parents, in foster care or available for permanent adoption.

Our Contribution in Colorado

There are over 900 Colorado CASA volunteers paired with children statewide. Colorado's CASA organizations serve over 2900 children annually. Yet more CASA volunteers are needed to help over 7000 additional children who need an advocate. Colorado CASA is a non-profit 501.c.3 agency receiving funding through foundation, corporate and individual donations throughout Colorado.
